WHAT IS STUDENTS WITHOUT BORDERS ACADEMY (SWB-A)? SWB-A serves as an extension of other leadership experiences. Students who have exhibited a desire to lead in their communities and schools can apply to SWB-A to further sharpen their skills and develop a global perspective on leadership. SWB-A Staff
SWB-A is a full semester program for grade 11/12 students delivered in an innovative 3-stage hybrid program:
The program synergizes high energy leadership development from the camp setting with the focused discipline of the successful classroom. All leading to deep, reflective experiential learning - the core of this program.
The program culminates in a five week international field study in Panama Central America- the crossroads of the world.
Dave Fehr (Balboa) is the SWB-A director. He was born in Panama and spent many of his formative years exploring the amazing biodiversity, cultural wealth and unique geography of Panama. Dave has taken student groups to Mexico, Spain, England and France. Dave is an experienced teacher at Kalamalka Secondary in Vernon BC. Dave is responsible for the academic and field study portion of the program
Maddy Fehr grew up in Ecuador and has vivid memories of exploring the Amazon tributaries and surrounding Andes mountains. Maddy is an experienced traveler and has chaperoned extended youth odysseys on numerous happy occasions.
Dan Saxton (D-Sax) was made for this job. Dan has travelled Costa Rica and has been part of a student service project in Belize. Dan is multi talented: he is an expert outdoorsman with serious wilderness experience. Dan is also a multi sport athlete. Dan has a heart for the environment and has been program staff at Eagle Bay Camp for several years.
Laura Tomalty is a brilliant education and literature student recently graduated from McMaster University. She is changing the world and invites us all to join her. Laura has extensive travel experience and has been program coordinator for a youth leadership program the last three years. Laura will be involved with the SWB-A throughout the semester.
